The Junior Concerto Competition is intended to provide a forum for exceptionally talented young musicians.

RULES & REGULATIONS
ELIGIBILITY: Open to all musicians residing and studying in Santa Barbara County or San Luis Obispo County, who are Ages 13-19, as of January 1, 2015.
APPLICATIONS: Must be completed and returned with proof of age and a non-refundable check for $25. A confirmation will be e-mailed upon receipt of the application. Audition schedule will be e-mailed by December 30th 2014. The SMPS is not responsible for late or misdirected mail due to weather, insufficient postage, or mislabeling. REPERTOIRE CRITERIA: One Movement of a concerto or concert piece for solo instrument or voice and orchestra. Selection must be memorized and no longer than 12 minutes in length. Contestants must perform a work that regularly appears in concert repertoire and for which the music for the orchestra is readily available. In the event a contestant is selected for a performance opportunity and the chosen work exceeds certain instrumentation or library limits below, the SMPS reserves the right to request the winner to substitute another work.
Music Library Limitations: Repertoire should be either in the SMPS library, easily loaned from a local source, or available for rental from a U.S. publisher. In the case that the work is obscure and only available at a large cost to the SMPS, the SMPS reserves the right to request the winner to substitute another work.
Instrumentation Limitations: Repertoire should fit the following pre-determined: 2 flutes, 2 oboes, 2 clarinets, 2 bassoons, 4 horns, 3 trumpets, 3 trombones, 1 tuba, timpani, 3 percussionists, 1 harp, strings.
AUDITIONS: Audition dates are January 12th and 13th 2015, 3pm-6pm. Auditions will be held in Arroyo Grande CA. The address will be provided to applicants. Auditions are closed to the public. Accompanists and page-turners (if needed) must be provided by the applicant. There are three (3) possible winners and an alternate. The judges will decide how many performers will be selected, and they have the right to select less than 3 performers if they determine the level of the performers is not adequate. Decisions made by judges and competition committee are final. In the event one of the winners cannot participate in the performance, the alternate will take their place.
WINNERS: The winners will perform with the SMPS at the April 18th 2015 concert. Each winner will receive a $100 prize. Two complimentary tickets will be given to the winner’s family to attend the concert.
